Leaning slightly toward a more painterly or impressionistic style, her goal is to focus more on the emotional and atmospheric properties of her subject matter rather than the intricate details of the face.
She has been accepted into many juried shows including the Idaho Watercolor Societies annual juried shows. Her portrait painting titled “Kathryn” was awarded Judges Choice at the NAG Centennial Juried show. “Kinzley” earned her the Bronze award. She has won various 1st – 2nd and 3rd place ribbons along with the IWS Robertson Award for her painting titled “Homecoming”. Her painting “Waiting” recently sold at the NAG fall juried show. She has exhibited her art in several local art fairs and was the featured artist for nine months in the Renato’ Galleria, exhibiting a series of wine art along with her portraits.
Artist Statement
Cheri Meyer, Watercolor Artist
My artistic goal is to produce art that stimulates an emotional response from the viewer. As an artist, I don’t “decide” to produce a painting – the process of painting is merely the execution on paper of ideas that formulate in my mind every day.
I am primarily a self-taught artist. I have spent years developing and studying a personal library of watercolor instruction books. Although I started out exclusively painting portraits – in the last year, I have discovered that I love to develop paintings on a “theme or series” basis gleaned from thoughts and ideas that continually play in my own mind.
Once the creative side of my brain is sparked by a happening, a person, a scene or a feeling, the ideas begins to develop in my head so fast that I can hardly wait to get the painting started. My excitement is palatable and I can’t wait to get the first one done so I can get started on the next one. The emotional high is so great that I want to share it with everyone. I am happy to say that my art is continually evolving and I am truly enjoying the journey – ever in pursuit of the proverbial “masterpiece”
